Leaf of Time - Cut Out

2013

Installation (Newspaper, acrylic paint)

Venue: Arts Initiative Tokyo (AIT) Tokyo, Japan

This is a work made from newspaper. I originally wanted to color it in yellow, thinking about the double meaning of contamination; one of radioactivity and the other of the mass media. As I make these one by one and day after day to look like a real leaf by coloring it yellow gold and erasing letters in the articles, I find myself trying to leave the letters to be read while feeling some contradiction in myself.
A few minutes of coloring seems to give me the time to face the aftermath of the earthquake and I believe I can put my thoughts and feelings into it.
