FITTER - Beppu

2009

Installation, fabric (2730x2000mm)

Venue: Kiyoshima-Apartment, Oita, Japan

I participated in a group exhibition at this apartment, which called Kiyoshima apartment during the Beppu Contemporary Art Festival Mixed Bathing World.

During the exhibition, this apartment became a residential place for artists, students and guests more than 100 people who came from all over Japan.

I set up this curtain at the entrance gate as become our introduction for neighbor people in this city. We can show them where we are coming from and where we are going, and also for connecting the inside and the outside of this apartment. The image of this curtain made by a group photo, which I met here the people who visit and stay like me.

Once you step out of the apartment, you live in this town and you can see the daily lives of people working here. I wanted to know about how our neighbor are watching artists, also arts or art event in this city today. -- Are we like an alien for you? But we must have been all the alien in the beginning. I wanted to see the process how we alien will connect with you.

This curtain will create a communication between unknown people and us.

The curtain will shakes by wind or by some visitors, and anything else?
